Indonesia Java International Destination – Banten – Kaibon Palace

Kaibon Palace located in the central java region is one of the Indonesia Java International Destination. The name of the palace Kaibon is derived from the word “Ibu’ which literally means mother. This palace was once ruled by a queen temporarily. The palace got its name as it was built as a gift to the mother of Sultan Muhammed Raffiudin whose name is Queen Asyiah by the Sultan himself. Due to the attack on the palace by the Dutch Governor General, now only ruins of the palace remain. The palace now consists of only moats, gorgeous gateway and a small river nearby. This palace is at a distance of 1 km from the Grand Mosque of Banten. This palace was built as early as the 19th century and it spans through an area of 15000 square meters. The palace was destroyed in the year of 1813 under the orders from the Dutch Governor General named Daendels after which the sultan’s reign ended. In the year 1832, further damage was done to the palace. Tourists are offered free admission to this palace which now consists of only ancient walls, main gate and foundations. Banten Grand Mosque, one of the Indonesia Java International Destination was built in 1566 and has a five layered roof and is considered as a pilgrimage place for Muslims.
